Getting IT Done-The Basics of Information Technology

This talk describes the components and terminology of information technology (IT) network systems to allow the healthcare simulation technology specialist (HSTS) to better setup and troubleshoot simulation components and systems. It introduces the form and function of internet protocol (IP) addresses and how to use these and port numbers to troubleshoot system connections. It also introduces the idea of power-over-ethernet (PoE) as a way to power network components without the need for separate wall adapters. This talk concludes with simulation specific examples of common connection and troubleshooting activities for several manikin manufacturers.
